The Blaney Elementary PTA is a 501(c)3 organization & will be happy to provide anyone donating goods or services with a donation letter.

We know you are about to be bombarded with information from the school administration and teachers, but we wanted to make sure you know what’s going on with YOUR PTA also.

First, if you haven’t joined the Blaney PTA yet, you can join at this link. The more participation we have in the PTA the better it can be!

Second, in the spirit of getting involved, our PTA Board Meetings are open for anyone to attend. In general, our meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month that is a school day and usually held after the car-rider line is clear at 3:15. (Next month’s meeting will be the 2nd Tuesday since it otherwise would be so close to this month’s meeting.)

Dates for our Board Meetings are currently set for:

• August 23 (This is also a general membership meeting to approve the budget & take care of beginning of the year issues)
• September 13
• October 4
• November 1
• December 6
• January 3
• February 7
• March 6
• April 10 (due to Spring Break)
• May 1

More items to note:

• The PTA Paws is usually sent once per month. Be on the lookout for it in your child’s Thursday folder. The first edition should go out in September.
• We are always in need of volunteers. If you have the flexibility of volunteering (particularly during school hours, but we do have other volunteer opportunities), please contact our volunteer coordinators, Jerry & Jennifer Enevoldsen at volunteer@blaneypta.com. Over the next week or two they will be going through the volunteer forms that have already been completed to contact those who have expressed an interest in volunteering.

We are in the process this week of getting our new board members set up with their Blaney PTA email addresses, but you can always call the school and leave a message or email info@blaneypta.com.

Remember, the cookie dough can be at room temperature for 21 days, refrigerated for 6 months and frozen for 1 year.

The BMX Bike Show will be Thursday, April 28th and the Top 10 Seller Limo Lunch will be Friday, April 29th.

Thank you to all who participated! We do not have a delivery date for the cookie dough yet, but we will let you know when the pick-up times will be once we have a scheduled delivery date.

TerraCycle provides free waste collection programs for hard to recycle materials which are then turned into affordable green products. And Blaney receives money for the materials turned in for recycling!

The items below can be dropped off at various collection containers around the school which we then send in to TerraCycle. When turning in your items for collection, please be sure they are free from food crumbs, liquid, etc.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

School days missed may be forgiven

SECTION    1.    Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 59-1-425 of the 1976 Code, the governing body of any school district of this State may waive up to five school days missed by students attending schools and charter schools in the district due to inclement weather during the 2010-2011 school year from the make-up requirement that full school days missed due to inclement weather, or other disruptions be made up.

SECTION    2.    Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 59-1-425 of the 1976 Code, for any district that waives days pursuant to this section, the days are also waived for students participating in home schooling programs approved by the district board of trustees of the district in which the students reside.

SECTION    3.    This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.

It would really be a shame if the team that placed 6th in the Elementary Division of the WORLD Tournament was not able to participate in the State tournament. Blaney also had an archer place 67th place OVERALL Male (which included ALL ages AND Elementary, Middle and High School divisions with a total of 543 males in the tournament!), 12th Place Elementary Division Male and 3rd Place among 5th Grade Males! We had 2 female archers place 12th among 4th Grade Females and 14th among 5th Grade Females and 56th and 62nd in the Elementary Division! All of this from the FIRST YEAR of Blaney’s Archery Team!
