2014-2015 Executive Board Results and Call For Committee Chairs

The PTA had a general membership meeting last night, during which we held our election for the 2014-2015 executive board and voted on a revised budget for the rest of the fiscal year.

The Blaney Elementary PTA executive board members for the 2014-2015 school year are:

President: Julie Eastin
Vice President: Ellen Nelson
Secretary: Tabitha Kernan
Treasurer: Sherra Scott

We were delighted to have so many people nominated this year. It’s been several years since we’ve had so many candidates from which to choose!

One of the first official acts of the new board at their meeting in July will be to appoint committee chairs for our standing committees. If you are interested in being a committee chair for one of our standing committees, please let us know ASAP. You can send an email to president@blaneypta.com to let us know you are interested.

If you are interested in being a committee chair, you must be a PTA member no less than 30 days prior to your appointment. So, that means you will need to join before the end of the school year since the board will be meeting in the beginning of July to begin planning for registration.

If you would like to join using a credit card to pay dues, you can do so at http://blaneypta.com/memberships/. You can also catch one of the board members at the school if you would like to give us a check or cash (someone is normally in the PTA room around dismissal time). Membership forms will be available in the front office.

Standing Committee Chairs are not expected to do all the work for the committee, but is in charge of the committee and reporting back to the board. Standing Committee Chairs are voting members of the Blaney PTA Board of Directors.

  • Volunteer Committee – This position takes a good amount of time and is an active committee all year.
  • Fundraising Committee – This position takes a good amount of time and is an active committee all year.
  • Nominating Committee – This position is mostly active after winter break, but is expected to attend board meetings all year.
  • Financial Review Committee – This position is mostly active in July/August after the new board has taken over, but may be needed at other times throughout the year if there is a change in authorized signators for checks and is expected to attend board meetings all year.
  • Grant Request Review Committee – This position is mostly active in August, September, and May but is expected to attend board meetings all year.

Other committees may be formed throughout the year to handle special tasks as needed, but chairs of those committees are not voting members of the board.

Our next board meeting will be Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at 3:15 PM in the Media Center. As always, our monthly board meetings are open to all. Meetings generally last 45 minutes to an hour, but may vary depending on the amount of information we need to cover.

3rd Nine Weeks Information

SONIC Community First Value Card – We are selling these cards for $5. You can buy one from a PTA member in the PTA room most mornings during drop-off and most afternoons during dismissal, or in the school office. 80% of the proceeds from the sale of these cards goes to Blaney PTA.

Spring Fling – The Blaney School Improvement Council is hosting a Community Yard Sale on Saturday, March 29, 2014. Blaney PTA is hosting a Spring Fling to coincide with the SIC event. The PTA is looking for donations for items to be used in a Silent Auction and raffles. More information on this will be forthcoming in the next couple of weeks.

Cookie Dough Spring Fundraiser – The Spring Cookie Dough Fundraiser will kick off on February 24th and run through March 10th. This year you will be able to choose from either pre-formed cookies or the tub of dough.

Mega Party for Fall Fundraiser – The Mega Party that was supposed to take place earlier this year was rescheduled for March 28th from 12-2 PM. We need volunteers to help with this. If you would like to volunteer, please contact the Volunteer Chair at volunteer@blaneypta.com

Nominations for next year’s PTA board will be open soon. We will post the nomination forms and information as soon as they are ready. Forms will also be sent home.

2011-2012 Thank You

Blaney Elementary School PTA has had a wonderful fundraising year. Fundraising events sponsored by the PTA this year were our Spring Fundraiser, Fall Fundraiser, 3 Ci Ci’s Pizza Nights, Fall Festival, Santa Shop, and 2 Book Fairs.

Accepting Donations for 2011 Fall Festival

The Blaney PTA is in the planning stages of their Fall Festival. It will be in November this year (instead of the usual October – like our Facebook page for more details forthcoming). The Silent Auction will be back & we are accepting donations of goods, services, gift certificates/gift cards, etc. If you would like to donate to the Fall Festival, send an email to fallfestival@blaneypta.com.

Assistance in spreading the word is appreciated. :)

The Blaney Elementary PTA is a 501(c)3 organization & will be happy to provide anyone donating goods or services with a donation letter.

Back to School 2011

We hope everyone got to school alright today. I’m sure there were some misty eyes in the kindergarten and 5th grade hallways – mostly from the parents. Babies on their first day of elementary school and babies on their last first day of elementary school. <sniff, sniff>

We know you are about to be bombarded with information from the school administration and teachers, but we wanted to make sure you know what’s going on with YOUR PTA also.

First, if you haven’t joined the Blaney PTA yet, you can join at this link. The more participation we have in the PTA the better it can be!

Second, in the spirit of getting involved, our PTA Board Meetings are open for anyone to attend. In general, our meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month that is a school day and usually held after the car-rider line is clear at 3:15. (Next month’s meeting will be the 2nd Tuesday since it otherwise would be so close to this month’s meeting.)

Dates for our Board Meetings are currently set for:

  • August 23 (This is also a general membership meeting to approve the budget & take care of beginning of the year issues)
  • September 13
  • October 4
  • November 1
  • December 6
  • January 3
  • February 7
  • March 6
  • April 10 (due to Spring Break)
  • May 1

More items to note:

  • The PTA Paws is usually sent once per month. Be on the lookout for it in your child’s Thursday folder. The first edition should go out in September.
  • We are always in need of volunteers. If you have the flexibility of volunteering (particularly during school hours, but we do have other volunteer opportunities), please contact our volunteer coordinators, Jerry & Jennifer Enevoldsen at volunteer@blaneypta.com. Over the next week or two they will be going through the volunteer forms that have already been completed to contact those who have expressed an interest in volunteering.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to attend our meetings or contact any of the board members. We are in the process this week of getting our new board members set up with their Blaney PTA email addresses, but you can always call the school and leave a message or email info@blaneypta.com.
